Magnesium

Magnesium is an important mineral that is often overlooked. In fact, up to 90 percent of Australian’s do not get the recommended daily intake (RDI) of magnesium from their diet alone. If you aren’t getting enough magnesium, you might be experiencing symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Symptoms can include leg cramps, migraines, fatigue, loss of appetite, depression, nausea and vomiting or high blood pressure.

So why is magnesium so importantɶ It plays a big part in keeping the heart healthy, making sure bones are strong and helping the body absorb other important minerals such as calcium and potassium. Magnesium supplementation also helps people with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, women who are pregnant, women experiencing menopause, or people who are at risk for osteoporosis.


Glucosamine

Glucosamine is a basic building block of animal and human cartilage, the tissue that lines, cushions and lubricates the joints in your body. Cartilage is a complex matrix of collagen fibres interwoven with proteoglycan molecules. Glucosamine is a precursor to proteoglycans, and when taken as a supplement, has been proven to be effective in rebuilding damaged cartilage and relieving pain in arthritic joints.


Fish oil (Omega-3 EFA and DHA)

Fish oil is oil derived from the tissues of oily fish. Fish oil is recommended for a healthy diet because it contains the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), precursors to eicosanoids that reduce inflammation throughout the body. Fish oil supplementation can help regulate cholesterol in the body, reduce inflammation, and protect cognitive functioning. Fish oil basically ’clears out the pipes’ and lubricates the body, restoring a healthy body composition. It is essential for cardiovascular disease prevention, helps to reduce high blood pressure, and relieves the inflammatory symptoms of auto-immune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Recent studies suggest that fish oil may help protect the brain from cognitive problems associated with Alzheimer’s disease, and may be as or more effective than Ritalin for treating Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
